Just the foods

Not much time and not a lot happened that I haven't written about, so this post is mostly just about dinner.
Due to work shenanigans
sashagee joined me for this meal.

A stir-fry of Bohemian chicken sausage from Sausage König, red onions and kale from Wild Coyote Farm, crimini mushrooms from River Valley Ranch, and Mexican squash and zucchini from Piscasaw Gardens, with garlic powder, red pepper flakes, cayenne pepper, oregano, and a bit of paprika.
This almost worked. It tasted fine and the sausage was great, especially since I cooked it separately so it crisped up and then we added it to the stir-fry after everything was done. In order to make sure the kale was properly softened I put a cover on the veggies for about five minutes to steam them, but I forgot that zucchini and squash are basically just giant bags of water. They didn't entirely fall apart, but they came pretty close. The kale and mushrooms and onions all had a great texture but the zucchini and squash were in tatters. Talking while we were eating, we worked out that I should have added the zucchini in right at the end, or seared it separately and then added it in, or otherwise prevented it from being included with everything else. The flavor was good, it was just some of the textures that could be improved.
As it is, though, I think it'd be great soup veggies. I might make up some soup with rice and throw these in.

A strawberry rosé donut from Downstate Donuts, which boasts on their bag that they are "made from potatoes." I don't know, it tasted like a donut to me. It was sugary, it was soft, it was pretty good, but I don't know that I'd go out of my way to eat it again. I prefer a crunchier donut, like an old fashioned.
Tomorrow is my birthday and I'm planning to meet some people in a secluded park for a little party. Bring your own cocktails, wear your finest goth attire (
britshlez called it "A Walk in the Dark"), sit on your own little tarp, and see some people I haven't seen in months. Then I took Friday off and
sashagee and I might go to Starved Rock for hiking, or we might go out to Route 34 Drive-in where they're playing Footloose and Grease, both of which I've already seen (amazingly), but not for decades. As plague birthdays go, I think it'll be a good one.
