Darker than Black, Week 52: Hammond's Toffee Brittle Dark Chocolate

Originally I was going to skip this week, because it's been a long day and I didn't think we had any chocolate in the queue other than Raaka, which I try not to do too much of in a row. But then I remembered that we'll be gone the next two weekends and found one extra chocolate bar buried under the others, so I changed my mind and here we are!

Nothing else to say this week. Let's talk about chocolate

Week 52 packaging
I like the package. Toffee-colored.

This chocolate caught me by surprise, because I was expecting a shell of dark chocolate around a core of toffee. That's how this works, right? It'd definitely how it would work if it were a caramel chocolate bar.

That wasn't how it worked this time, though. The toffee was broken up and mixed into the chocolate, lending the entire bar a pleasantly sweet taste and a crunchy texture without any of the worry of having to bite down on a giant layer of toffee and get it stuck between your teeth. I love toffee--I used to get bags of salt-water toffee every summer in Oregon--but I appreciate the ease of eating this. It was just on the edge of being too sweet and creamy for me, but the crunchy texture saved it. If it had melted when I bit into it I would have disliked it right away. Good chocolate should have some resilience to it.

The only complaint I have is that while the distributed toffee chunks dispersed the flavor through the whole bar, it wasn't particularly strong. I would have liked slightly larger toffee bits for more crunch and, more importantly, a stronger flavor. Emoji Treasure chest

I liked this chocolate because I like toffee. It often gets stuck in or to my teeth but I love it anyway. I found this chocolate to be a good balance of toffee to chocolate. And it's small enough that the toffee doesn't stick to my teeth (my dentist will be happy). The toffee provides good texture even if it was a bit sweeter than I tend to like. I'd buy it again.
I don't think I would, though. It was nice and pleasant, but there was nothing that stood out to me and, like I said, it was almost no good. I'd love a version with darker chocolate and more toffee, though.
